Melissa Ann 'Missy Ann' Pewo

Melissa Ann "Missy Ann" Pewo, 51, departed this earthly life and began her heavenly journey on Saturday, January 8, 2022, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, after a brief illness. Missy Ann was the daughter of the late Vernon Lee Pewo, Sr. and Lavena Joyce Tongkeamha Pewo. She was born on February 20,1970, in Lawton, Oklahoma. She attended Carnegie Public Schools and graduated in 1990. Missy Ann is an enrolled member of the Comanche Nation and also of Kiowa and Apache descent. She was a member of the Saddle Mountain Indian Baptist Church. Missy Ann became a resident of Anadarko, Oklahoma, in 2009 due to the passing of her mother, Lavena. During the summer of 2021, Missy began residing in the Carnegie Nursing Home until her passing.

Missy Ann was full of life. She was bright, intelligent and very loving. She never met a stranger. Missy Ann always went out of her way if she seen you to give you the biggest hug and always left you with a smile. Her heart was full of love. She was well known by everyone. Missy Ann enjoyed attending pow-wows and ceremonials. She loved to dance and Lu-Lu. Missy Ann was also an avid Carnegie Wildcat fan. You could always find Missy Ann and her mother, Lavena, at all the basketball games. She was the biggest Michael Jackson fan and loved to dance to the oldies. There are really not enough words to describe how wonderful Missy Ann was. She loved kitty cats and watching Animal Planet.

Missy Ann is survived by her brothers, Vernon Lee Pewo, Jr. of Dallas, TX and Erwin Clifton Pewo, Sr. of Sayre, OK; Her aunts, Prenella Tongkeamha of Anadarko, OK, Lisa LaBrada of Carnegie, OK; her uncle, Raymond Tongkeamha of Apache, OK; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandkids and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Lee Pewo, Sr. and Lavena Joyce Tongkeamha Pewo; her brother, Weiser Wilson Pewo "Fat Boy"; her paternal grandparents, Wilson and Ethel Eikeahpidhoodle Pewo; her maternal grandparents, Weiser and Henrietta Apayyat Tongkeamha; her beloved nephew, Erwin C. Pewo, Jr.; aunts, Melissa Tongkeamha Kaulaity, Rebecca R. Tongkeamha; uncles, Wallace Tongkeamha, Clifton Tongkeamha, James Tongkeamha and Bruce Tongkeamha; grandparents, Bill and Margaret Apayyat Methvin, Alfred and Leota Chalepah.

Her beautiful life will be forever cherished.

Funeral services for Missy Ann were at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Smith Funeral Home in Anadarko. Burial follow at the Saddle Mountain KCA Intertribal Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Tongkeamha, Sydney Toppah Sr., Carlos La Brada Jr., Gavin Ewalt, Darius McGee, Javier McGee, Lance Buck. Honorary Pallbearers: Raymond Tongkeamha, Donald Pewo, Alonzo Chalepah and Byron Tongkeamha.
