Phyllis Jean Ross

January 18, 2022

Phyllis Jean Ross was born on June 11, 1947 in Del Norte, Colorado to Delmer Leonard and Betty Jean (Arnett) Humphreys. After a short illness, she gained her heavenly wings on January 14, 2022 at the age of 74.

Jean lived in Colorado, Arizona and Oakwood, Faye-Thomas area as a child. Her family then moved to the Oklahoma City area and she attended grade school at Arthur Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and two years at U.S. Grant High School. She finished her schooling at New Castle High School. Jean was an extremely hard worker all of her life. She moved to the Oney community in 1970. She helped her husband farm, raise a family, drove the school bus for Oney schools and then went to work at the Gragg Funeral Home in Binger in 1977. She then worked at the Smith Funeral Home and Fort Cobb Funeral Home until her health started to decline. She worked in the funeral industry for 40 years. She was the top salesman in pre-needs in 1991-1992. She won several trips that she was able to enjoy. She met and made so many friends along the way. Always had a story to tell and enjoyed every minute of it.

After raising her children, Jean married Roy Ross on November 10, 1994, in Oklahoma City. They made their home near Carnegie. She loved animals and raised several miniature horses. She couldn't refuse a stray dog so she always had one around. She loved her fur babies. Jean was an outdoors person. She enjoyed working in the yard, taking long walks and talking and also hunting mushrooms. She could always find a pretty good sack full and usually a dose of poison ivy because she just couldn't stand to leave a good mushroom in the middle of it.

Jean was very family oriented. She loved her family with all her heart. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for them. She was a "giver" and helped anybody, never asking or expecting anything in return. She always seen the good in everyone. Jean loved her grandkids and great grandkids. She was always available to help with whatever was needed. She enjoyed her manicures and hair styling that the girls would provide to her. Loved going to all the ballgames no matter where they were. They could talk her into doing anything they wanted to do.

Jean had a heart of gold. She will be remembered for her generosity, kind heart, and many prayers prayed for so many. Most importantly, she was a Christian lady who accepted Christ as her Savior and was continuously witnessing to others. She believed in and loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb and her church spot was always on the front row!

Jean enjoyed life to the fullest. She has left us with so many memories that will be cherished forever. We are so lucky to have had such a wonderful wife, mother, sister, nana, friend and role model. She touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.
