Tribe to hold candlelight vigil, dance for Lambert

Members of the Kiowa Tribe will pay their respects to Silas Lambert this weekend with events in Anadarko and Carnegie. Lambert was fatally shot by an Anadarko Police Department officer during an April 5 incident.

The Missing and Murdered Indigenous People's Kiowa chapter is hosting a candlelight memorial and benefit powwow this weekend in an effort to honor

Lambert's memory.

On Friday, Aug. 20, a candlelight vigil will be held. The service will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 111 Nixon Drive in Anadarko.

On Saturday, the Kiowa Tribe will stage an all gourd dance at the Kiowa Tribal Dance Grounds in Carnegie. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. with a

prayer and a welcome. An All Gourd dance will be held at 2:30 p.m., followed by a dinner break that will feature an Indian Taco benefit sale. As part of

the meal, individuals will receive an Indian taco, a drink and a dessert.

A second gourd dance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Closing prayers will be held at 9 p.m.

Lambert, who was a resident of Anadarko, was 25 at the time of his death.
